Uncovering the Timeless Tango Hits: Exploring Juan D'Arienzo and Alberto Echague's Trendsetting Partnership

JUAN D'ARIENZO
ALBERTO ECHAGÜE

One of the most popular singers of D'Arienzo is the street-style voice of Alberto Echagüe.

Before D'arienzo's orchestra emerged, most tangos were becoming increasingly complex, which didn't appeal to many dancers. D'Arienzo's innovative rhythm, influenced by the skillful hands of his pianist, Rodolfo Biagi, steered the music back to what dancers truly enjoyed. This fresh, dynamic approach revitalized both the musical style and the dance itself.

D'Arienzo was in search of a vocalist who could complement the bold style while also acknowledging the delicate aspects of tango. Enter Alberto Echagüe's. Their trendsetting partnership created a sense of urgency and vitality to the dancer, interspersed with tender moments that brought a touch of lightness to each song.

Below is a link to a playlist with their best hits from 1938-39.

Note: "Paciencia" by Enrique Carbal in the playlist because it is commonly played with the 1938-39 Echagüe tandas.

Most popular songs in the list:

Mandria

Paciencia

Nada Más

Pensalo Bien

La Bruja
